Is it possible to return to a career in libraries after

  • spending time looking after children?
  • being made redundant?
  • caring for a relative?
  • recovering from an illness?

Do people who have trained and worked in the information field struggle to return after a career break or do they find the journey seamless and smooth?

For a number of reasons the transition from home to work is not as straightforward and easy for everyone. The experience which took you away from the workplace will no doubt have changed you. You may feel like a different person, with different priorities.  While you will have gained new skills you may feel that you have also become out of date. Confidence may be low. There may be worry over money. You may need to work a certain number of hours to make childcare or other costs affordable but what kind of job will fit in with your new circumstances?

The idea of finding a library job can be daunting prospect! Is it possible to ‘get back in’ to a library career and once again undertake fulfilling work?
